NCAAM Hoops – Big 12 Outlook

As I write this we all know who will end up at #1 in the conference. Kansas. That part is easy, even with them being way down this year they have the best coach and the best talent in the league. Texas Tech that was supposed to be KU’s biggest threat dropped a home game to Iowa State last night, something that you can’t do if you are finally going to unseat the Jayhawks from the top spot.

The rest of the league is a mediocre mess. KSU and ISU are 3-2 in league play, TCU and Baylor are 2-2, and #20 OU, UT, and OSU are at 2-3. The league is a strong contender year in and year out in the big dance, but I think the parity of the middle teams will be its down fall this year. There are too many teams hanging around and some or most might get left out.

I think the league will play out and this will be the final standings.

$ = Making the NCAA Tourney

  1. Kansas (7) $
  2. Texas Tech (8) $
  3. Iowa State $
  4. Oklahoma (20) $
  5. TCU $
  6. Kansas State $
  7. Baylor – NIT
  8. Texas – NIT
  9. Oklahoma State
  10. West Virgina

Anything can happen in this league, and I am excited to see what happens down the stretch, but I think my Bears will have to upend a top tier team to make the dance. A lost to Texas Southern in the first game of the year was not a good resume boost. Maybe Texas Tech can unseat the Jayhawks of the Big 12 crown, but I don’t see it happening.
