Witten, Thank God He is Out of the Booth

If you did not hear Jason Witten is back with the Cowboys. Thankfully it appears that he also realized he is no Tony Romo when it comes to broadcasting. Its fine Jason, you gave it your best shot. You have to think ESPN was over joyed when he told them he is leaving.

But you have to wonder how good will he be with the Cowboys after a year off. Sure it gave his body a year of rest but how well conditioned is he? In 2017 and the few years before you could see that his speed was gone. Yes he could still get open because he was really good at reading the defense and finding the soft spot but he never was able to gain anything after the catch. Still if he can do this it is better than what we currently have for tight end (can anyone name the Cowboy’s tight ends). Witten’s biggest issue is he cannot block and I do not think a year off improved that. It will be interesting how the coaches use him. If they only use him on passing downs they will be giving the defense a good guess on what is coming.

I am sure Witten will do well with the Cowboys again but I am not expecting a lot of the field. I think his bigger impact will be in his leadership rolls in the locker room and on the sideline. Heck, maybe he can audition for Garrett’s head coaching position…
