Baylor Bears, National Champions

It’s been 7 years since Baylor nation has been able to say we were national champs and now we can again! Last night Baylor took on Notre Dame and gave everyone a heart attack that was watching it live. The Lady Bears were cruising through the first 3 quarters of the game, even extending their lead to 17 points in the game. At the end of the 3rd quarter the Bears were up by 11, and doing a great job of shutting down the Irish offense, but as I predicted the game would be a back and forth thriller in the 4th quarter. I wish it was smooth sailing for the Bears, but as soon as Cox got hurt the momentum quickly shifted to the Irish.

With just over 3 minutes left in the game Ogunbowale made a free throw for Notre Dame and put the Irish up 1. The Bears took the lead back with 2:34 left in the game, and Notre Dame would never lead again even though they had plenty of chances. With 17 seconds left the Irish tied the game at 80, giving the Bears an opportunity for the last shot of the game. Chloe Jackson drove through the lane and made a contested layup with 6 seconds to go. Plenty of time for the Irish to draw up a play and either go for the tie or win. The Irish chose to take it to OT. Ogundowale drove to the hoop and was fouled with 2 seconds to go. Ogundowale heads to the line for the most important free throws of her life and misses the first! Needing to miss the 2nd one to get the offensive rebound she accidentally made it cutting the lead to one. The Bears were not in the bonus for free throws so the Irish had to foul twice and they fouled with 0.3 seconds left and the Bears were able to throw the ball in for the victory!

Its a great day to be a Baylor Bear!
