This dude Brooks Koepka is a beast at majors. There is no other way around this fact. He finished round 1 of the PGA Championship at 7 under. This score was the best by 4 strokes. Yesterday he was hitting every shot with confidence and drilling the tee shots in the fairway and sticking the ball close to the hole on his approach. I would not want to be in the field trying to catch this man this weekend.
Tiger wasn’t great in the opening round. It looked like he was trying to do too much and came up too little. Tiger finished at 2 over par and 9 shots off the lead. If the Vegas favortie is going to win he will have to get hot putting. He struggled early with his putter. He could do it, but I would not put money on him. I stayed away from him in all of Draft Kings line ups this weekend, simply because I don’t think he is healthy enough to win back to back majors.
The rest of the players competing is called “the field”. These guys have some of the top names in their, but it is the realitily unknowns that made noise on day 1. Tommy Fleetwood finished at -3 and several others finished round 1 at -2. I think that these guys will falter the next few days and you will get a Speith, Koepka, Folwer, Johnson top 4 heading into Sunday. (not in that order)
The course that they are play on is Bethpage State Park – Black Course. It is know as one of the most difficult courses in the world. Notice not many pros are shooting under par. This course is in Farmingdale NY (close to Niagara Falls) and is a public course. An out of state player can play for 150 and instate players 75 dollars. This sign is Iconic in the golf world, if you did not know where it was located it is here at Bethpage Black.
